The film shows snapshots of the different eras of the Berlin opera institution, from the beginning until today. Artists talk about their lives which are associated with The Deutsche Oper.

Enrique Sánchez Lansch is part of the jury of the „ChopShots Documentary Film Festival Southeast Asia” in Jakarta from Dec 5–9, 2012. Documentaries from all over the world will be screened during the film festival, some of which have never been shown in Southeast Asia before. The program consists of the categories „international competition” and „best short film of Southeast Asia”. There will also be other documentaries apart from the competitions.
Enrique Sánchez Lansch was invited to vote for the best of the 13 full-length documentary films in the category „international competition”. The films analyse the issue of social structures in various cultural circumstances. The award „best full-length documentary” is connected with 5000 EUR price money.

In seinem Film begleitet Enrique Sánchez Lansch die Schauspielerin Dagmar Manzel auf ihrer musikalischen Entdeckungsreise auf den Spuren des Filmkomponisten Werner Richard Heymann. Zusammen mit dem Pianisten Tal Balshai und weiteren Musikern interpretiert Dagmar Manzel unvergessliche Melodien wie „Ein Freund, ein guter Freund”, „Das gibt’s nur einmal, das kommt nicht wieder” oder „Irgendwo auf der Welt gibt’s ein kleines bisschen Glück“ in neuen Arrangements mit ungewohnten Klängen.
Beide entdecken auch Raritäten aus dem Schaffen Heymanns, der nicht nur für Lilian Harvey, Greta Garbo und Hildegard Knef komponierte, sondern Rilke vertonte, fürs Kabarett und die Operettenbühne schrieb.
Die Kamera ist beim gesamten Erarbeitungsprozess dabei, bei Proben, Üben und Gesangsunterricht bis hin zum Konzert. Hinzu kommen Treffen zwischen Dagmar Manzel und Elisabeth Heymann, W.R. Heymanns Tochter.

The film shows snapshots of the different eras of the Berlin opera institution, from the beginning until today. Artists talk about their lives which are associated with The Deutsche Oper. First of all, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau has to be mentioned. Only a few weeks before his death he talks detailed and emphatically about the beginning of his career right after the Second World War and the Fifties. Furthermore, there are Christa Ludwig, René Kollo, Karan Armstrong, Hans Neuenfels, Donald Runnicles and Aribert Reimann. Defining personalities of the history like general adminstrators Carl Ebert, Gustav Rudolf Sellner, Götz Friedrich and others are also presented.
